Whether it is for domestic or commercial properties, W G Carter’s expertise in the Specialist Refurbishment area is constantly in demand. Such projects are always demanding and often present unique and exciting challenges that require very careful management, extensive knowledge and skilled workmanship. See also Listed Buildings.

Project A

Our photographs do not do justice to the tremendous results of some impressive refurbishment works in the main Hall in this former country house. The area is now being used to display artworks including unique frescos for which the surfaces were specially prepared with traditional lime and horsehair plaster. An oak structured vaulted ceiling and oak framework to the walls was incorporated and a glass bridge and balustrading installed. New electrical and mechanical services were also installed including equipment to achieve specialist lighting effects.

Project B

A twin extension was added to this old, thatched cottage and the cottage itself completely refurbished, including the re-thatching of the roof. New natural stone boundary walls were built and internally alterations were carried out including the installation of a new oak staircase and doors. Bamboo slate floors were laid, with under floor heating added to part of the ground floor.

Project C

Another unusual project awarded to W G Carter Limited involved the specialist refurbishment of rooms within a museum building to provide a laboratory purpose-equipped for work with valuable manuscripts and artworks. A new air handling plant was required and its installation, along with the associated duct and steel support work, presented the team with an exciting challenge. Due to the location of the site, the project necessitated a high degree of security and protection of exhibits as well as close co-ordination with staff at the museum, specialist suppliers and local authorities (the closure of a busy road was required at one point).
